JOSEPH HUTCHINSON was born in Chesterfield, and later became a chorister at the Parish Church. Through the choir, Joseph started learning the piano under Michael Baker, and the organ with Ian Brackenbury. Joseph then went to the University of Bristol reading music, studying organ with David Ponsford, and piano with Raymond Clarke. Whilst there, he was also the University Organ Scholar, and conducted the University of Bristol Church Choir. After graduating, Joseph became Organ Scholar at St John’s Church, Ranmoor, and is now Assistant Director of Music at Chesterfield Parish Church, alongside his scholarship. With this responsibility, Joseph is the Accompanist to the Boys’ Choir, and directs the newly set up Girls’ Choir. Alongside these posts, Joseph also teaches piano peripatetically at St Peter & St Paul Independent School in Chesterfield, locally performs recitals, and is regularly sought to accompany local choirs for services, weddings, and school events.
